Source

Overview

The team explored a game for icebreaking and team bonding: a random letter is selected, and players race to find and scan a matching object in the real world.

Project statusAcademy team prototype

Scope

A multiplayer iOS game for icebreaking and team bonding. Players receive a letter challenge, search their surroundings and scan a real object to compete across rounds.

Product scope

Main features

01

Shared lobby & rounds

Nearby players join a shared game, receive letter-based challenges and accumulate points across rounds.

02

Real-world object scanning

Camera-based recognition connects objects in the player’s surroundings to the current challenge.

03

Voice & spatial experiments

The source also explores voice input and AR capabilities alongside the core scanning and multiplayer experience.

Tools & responsibilities

Technology

Swift & SwiftUI

Native interface and game-state presentation.

Core ML & Vision

On-device object-detection integration.

YOLOv8

The object-detection model family used for scanning.

Multipeer Connectivity

Nearby peer-to-peer multiplayer communication.

Speech & AVFoundation

Voice input and audiovisual platform capabilities.

ARKit & RealityKit

Spatial and augmented-reality experiments in the retained source.

Decisions & trade-offs

Engineering approach

Connect recognition to a game rule

Object detection has to feed the shared challenge and scoring flow, making recognition useful within a social game rather than as an isolated camera demo.

Coordinate players and local input

The project combines peer communication, camera recognition and interface state. It was built as a team prototype, without a public launch or adoption claim.

What I worked on

  • Built the project with an Academy team using SwiftUI.
  • Used Multipeer Connectivity for peer-to-peer play.
  • Integrated Core ML and Vision for object detection with YOLOv8, plus Speech for voice input.

Results & scope

On-device ML

object recognition with Core ML & Vision

  • A multiplayer project combining shared lobbies, letter-based challenges, object scanning and scoring across rounds.
  • Practical experience connecting on-device recognition with a collaborative game experience.

Built as an Apple Developer Academy team project for shared play and team bonding.
